
CHC40108 Certificate IV in Aged Care is a course suitable for people who are employed in aged care work or have prior experience in aged care work who want to upgrade their knowledge and skills in this area. Workers at this advanced level may provide services to people with complex needs, assist in program development and delivery, or may be required to supervise/co ordinate a limited number of other service providers.
Completion of the CHC40108 Certificate IV in Aged Care will make the Aged Care Worker more efficient in assessing the service needs of the older people with complex needs, planning and monitoring service delivery, undertaking relevant administrative work, planning and conducting group activities, implementing and monitoring OH&S policies and procedures, conducting recreational programs for older people and organising an effective work environment.
This qualification is suitable for people seeking professional or career development in the aged care industry and direct care work.
MODE OF DELIVERY
Teacher led class room delivery
Duration of Teacher led classroom (face to face) learning is 15 weeks. For each unit, candidates are given learners guides (student notes), assessment materials (work book and portfolio) and references for further reading. After successful completion of theory, the students will be placed in Aged care facility for on-the-job training (clinical placement).
E-Learning (Online delivery)
Students are given flexibility in doing the theory part of the course through the VCHN e-learning platform. The workbooks can also be completed online. After successful completion of theory, the students will be placed in Aged care facility for on-the-job training (clinical placement).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students are expected to complete CHC30208 Certificate III in Aged Care or equivalent courses prior to start of this program. In addition, to gain entry into CHC40108 Certificate IV in Aged Care a candidate must be recognized as competent, through a recognized training program or recognition process, against the following compulsory units from CHC30208 Certificate III in Aged Care (or equivalent):

CHCPA301B Deliver care services using a palliative approach

The students seeking entry in to this course should meet the following criteria
1. Applicants 18 years and above and have successfully completed Year 12 of secondary schooling or equivalent.
2. The learner’s language, literacy and numeracy levels are expected to be equivalent to level 3 of the National Reporting System or IELTS score of 5.5 or higher.
3. Oral communication: the learner will be able to use and respond to written language including some unfamiliar material in a variety of contexts.
4. Numeracy and Mathematics: The learner will be able to recognise and use some of the conventions of mathematics including measurements, graphs, and simple statistics and have an introductory understanding of the use of formulae and problem solving strategies.
5. Learners required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test(LLN) during enrolment
6. Supply a satisfactory Police Clearance Check will be required for Clinical placement.
7. Students not holding the units required for entry can complete them as a pre entry program at VCHN.
8. Students planning to do E-learning must have access to a computer with internet and basic computer skills
