This workshop is open to people who work in the following occupations who may be exposed to people with diabetes:

• Carers
• General practitioners
• Diabetes Educators
• Social Workers
• Endocrine Specialist Registrars
• Health Coaching Officer
Delivery: After registration and payment you’ll be given exclusive access to your own e-learning portal. The duration of the course is 4 hours. You may enrol any time of the year.
Online access to this course is one month from the date you commence. Unfortunately we cannot provide extensions as students can easily finish this course within this time.
• What is diabetes?
• What are the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?
• What causes diabetes?
• How does diabetes present itself and does it change the normal mechanical, physical and biochemical functions of the body?
• How to define, apply and measure blood glucose results
• What dietary options and changes are available for people with diabetes?
• What is the relationship between diet, exercise and medication for people with diabetes?
• How to develop a plan for teach insulin self-management
• What is the role of oral anti-diabetic agents?
• What is the difference between diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar non-ketotic syndrome?
• What management strategies can a person with diabetes employ during sick days?
• What are the major microvascular, macrovascular and neuropathic complications of diabetes and the self-care behaviour that are important in their prevention?
Our quiz at the beginning of the workshop allows you to understand your current knowledge in relation to diabetes and so you’ll know what you need to learn. Online quizzes will be automatically assessed, and so you will know your score and be given immediate feedback. A score of 80% or above in the last quiz is required for a Certificate of Attendance.
