About this Course:
Poor manual handling techniques is a major cause of injuries in the workplace. This translates into a massive human cost, compensation cost and loss of productivity. On completion of this course participants will gain an understanding of the legal requirements for manual handling, apply sound manual handling techniques and performance of the four stage approach.

2) Manual handling
    a) What is manual handling?
    b) Principles of manual handling
    c) Manual handling injuries
    d) Basic Principles of lifting
    e) No lift policy
3) Risk Management
4) Legal Considerations
    a) OHS ACT 2004
    b) Understanding legal requirements.
5) Workplace Layout
6) Taking Care Of Yourself
    a) Understand how the spine works
    b) Understand the importance of warming up, exercise and rest.
    c) Fire & Safety
    d) Emergency Codes
7) Video presentation
    a) No lifting system
    b) Risk assessment
    c) Slide sheet technique


Practicals:
    a) Selecting the right equipment
    b) Using standing machine
    c) Using lifting machine or hoist
    d) Positioning, Positioning with slide sheet
    e) Body mechanics and manutension

Assessment Methods:
Participation in class discussions, oral questions, pre test, post test, practical assessment and observation on correct manual handling techniques.
