*Competency-based training is the concept that individuals learn at different rates as well as through different modes and different environments and that the skills and knowledge that a student has acquired previously are able to be formally recognised. Eg: Students who are eligible for RPL may be able to finish the course in 3 months with an Assessment Only delivery mode.
The CHC33015 – Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) is designed for workers in the community or residential setting who provide individualised support to the aged or people with disabilities. They must use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for their own outputs. They are taught the factual, technical and procedural knowledge of the concepts and practices required.Students may undertake this course as an entry pathway into the aged care or disability care industry. Our course is directed towards developing multi-skilled workers for the broad range of services supporting aged people and the disabled in residential and community settings.
Skills First Program 2018 – 2019: “This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding”
The course is provided through Face to Face or Online mode of delivery. It will be delivered over 755 hours including theory, self-paced structured e-learning, simulation training (120 hours) and 160 hours of work-based training/ professional experience placement (PEP).
Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do unstructured learning as assigned.
The simulation training is for review of the learning activities, practicing communication, work-based skills, management skills and to undertake other assessments e.g.: group presentation/individual presentation.
FACE TO FACE ON-CAMPUS:
Face to face delivery mode is available in a full-time and part-time delivery.
Full Time : 2 days/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.
Part Time : 1 day/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.
Full fee Students : Online Theory with on-campus simulation training and Professional experience placement
International Students (Secondary course) : Online Theory with on-campus simulation training and Professional experience placement.

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course.
IHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.
- Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above and need to be Secondary School year 10 pass,
- Be of mature age which can be demonstrated by a candidate who is at least of 21 years and has 2 years industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication
In addition, all the applicants are required to have successfully completed an ACSF test and demonstrate competence as working at Level 3 for all indicators to enroll for this qualification (issued within the last 12 months from the time of admission).
It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS (PEP)
Professional Experience Placements (PEP) is a compulsory component of this course and 100% attendance is mandatory. Students must complete all theory and simulation components satisfactorily prior to attending placements.
The Professional Experience Placements will be 5 days a week. Students may be allocated a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) shifts. Morning shifts usually start at 7 am and evening shifts can finish at 10.30pm. Each shift is 8.5 hours long (including 30 mins meal break).
PEPs are undertaken in partnership with a wide range of placement providers. These providers are located throughout metropolitan, regional and rural areas, and in some cases interstate. Students must consider that they may be required to travel or relocate for the duration of the placement to the facility location. Students must attend as per schedule; no special arrangements or changes will be made on the allocated placements. PEPs may be cancelled without prior notice by the facility.
Additional Requirement for professional experience placement.
- A satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP)/ NCC will be required for all PEPs
- IHNA highly recommends students to complete the immunization process before the Professional Experience Placement start date as some facilities will not provide placement to student without immunisation.
While IHNA will work with you to make “reasonable adjustments” in the campus lab and classroom, there are work place practice conditions that occur in the workplace environment that are beyond IHNA’s control.
The physical requirements below are necessary to function in the healthcare facility and/or community setting. Students must be able to perform and complete course objectives and requirements with or without reasonable adjustments. Our courses cater to a range of candidates. The candidates are required to be physically fit to manage tasks.
Skills and abilities that are needed to perform client care to pass the course objectives and requirements are:
- Strength: Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a client, and perform CPR
- Mobility: Sufficient mobility to bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined areas.
- Hearing: Sufficient to hear through the stethoscope to discriminate sounds; to hear cries for help; to hear alarms on equipment and emergency signals; and various overhead pages.
- Vision: Sufficient to make physical assessments of client and equipment.
- Communication: Able to communicate in both verbal and written formats; and interact with clients, staff, and faculty supervisors.

Assessment strategies are implemented for collecting evidence and making judgements about whether competency has been achieved by the learner.
The assessments confirm whether an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace, as expressed in the relevant endorsed unit of competency.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is about the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through work and life experiences, no matter how, when or where the learning occurred. We acknowledge your previous achievement of competencies or learning outcomes that may count towards your qualification. RPL acknowledges that people learn in many different ways and that learning may have been obtained through:
- Formal learning – which takes place within an institution, such as in a school system, college or at TAFE, and is formally recognised with grades, diplomas or certificates;
- Informal learning – occurs in a variety of places, such as at home, work, and through daily interactions and relationships with members of society;
- Non-formal learning – you had a formal learning environment, but is not formally recognised within a curriculum or syllabus framework (e.g. from workshops, short courses, seminars, community or interest-based courses, conferences);
- A mix of the above.
This recognition process is evidenced in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and could provide you with a full or partial qualification and avoid duplication of training. You may be able to complete your course faster through recognition of your previous study, work skills and past experience as credits towards completion of your course. Some of our courses also have recognised study pathways, making learning more accessible. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
HOW ARE MY SKILLS ASSESSED?
Your skills will be assessed against industry standards. This is done by an RPL assessor. You may be asked to:
- Perform tasks or jobs
- Talk about and explain how you do those jobs (through a structured interview process)
- Provide evidence of your work
- A visit to your workplace may be organised so you can demonstrate your abilities. You may have to provide job descriptions, references or documented evidence of performance appraisals.
- The assessor will consider your skills and knowledge and match them against a suitable qualification.
If your qualifications, training or skills were gained outside Australia, you might be able to get recognition for your skills or qualifications to determine your eligibility to gain credit for the intended course of study. We can initiate this process on the available courses for which RPL is applicable.

If you intend on applying for RPL:
- Please request the RPL application by contacting our admission officers directly on 1800 22 52 83 or email firstname.lastname@example.org state your request.
- Carefully read the information contained within the RPL Student Guide.
- Send your RPL application to our Admissions Officer using the RPL Student Information Form (fully complete all sections).
- Collate copies of all required documents to be used as evidence of your prior learning/experience.
- Attach these documents to your application.
- Submit the Application Form and documented evidence via email to email@example.com
- There is an application Fee of AUD$200.00 to conduct the RPL assessment and evaluation.
Credit Transfer (CT)
Applicants for Credit Transfer must complete the credit transfer application form, attach a copy of a verified Award or Statement of Attainment and submit the application to the Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator must check the Award or Statement of Attainment and grant Credit Transfer for identical units that have been identified as being completed at another Registered Training Organisation. Verified copies of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment used as the basis for granting Credit Transfer must be placed in the student files. The student and the Course Coordinator must sign the completed Credit Transfer record. Granting of Credit Transfer must be recorded as a unit outcome in the student's file. Student’s individual training plans will be adjusted to reflect any Credit Transfer granted. Credit Transfer does not attract a fee.

I was always finding ways to help within the community ( cooking soups and delivery to the local elders ) or helping youth groups ect , I lost my mother at a very young age and my nana showed me how to care for people around you. I came to a point in my life. I was a single mother of four and I wanted to show my children , you can achieve anything you want within your life. I did a lot of research online about nursing. And how I could achieve this . That’s when I originally signed up to a online collage to complet a assistant nurse course , how ever that collage was all of campus and living in regional wa , They could not find me work placement , so right at the end of the course I walked away , as I would not get my certificate , if I could not do my work practice. It was then I decided not to give up, and I did more research on collages and universities, That where well recommended . I came across many . How ever I decided to go with IHNA Perth campus . I completed my cert 3 in age care and I’m currently studying Diploma of nursing. ( finally a collage whom is dedicated to nursing ) . The collage was welcoming and non judgemental.
The collage was easy to locate, and walking distance from public transport. The facility has staff whom have worked in the filed of nursing. So they really know what they are talking about. When it came to work practice. I was given a placement with in ten mins from my home. The IHNA team ,were very professional when it comes to teaching there classes, and take the time for one on one if you don’t understand, They make sure that you are well prepared for work practice and the work force.
