The finalists in the 2016 Victorian Training Awards were announced by Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert, and Health Careers has qualified into the finalist category this year. These awards recognise the achievements of students, trainees and apprentices and the teachers, schools and businesses who provide their training. The final results will be announced during the ceremony on the 26th August 2016.
There are 15 categories this year, ranging from school-based apprentices to Vocational Education and Training teacher/trainer of the year. Employers who support the skills development and training of their staff and Industry providers will also be recognised at the event. Each of the individual category winners will become finalists in the Australian Training Awards.
The Employer awards category recognises the key involvement of small and large businesses in the continued development of training in Victoria , and the diversity of school-based training is celebrated in the VET in Schools Excellence Award and the School-based Apprentice of the Year.
Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert congratulated all the finalists, saying, "Training is the key to a skilled and adaptable workforce. I congratulate the students, employers and educators who are finalists in the 2016 Victorian Training Awards."
