We arrange your hospital/health service placement with approved providers.
Hospitals run on teamwork. This course trains you to support nurses safely and professionally-so patients feel cared for and the ward continues to function smoothly.
Develop practical skills in vital signs, manual handling, infection prevention, patient hygiene, bed making, communication, and documentation.
Get supervised experience on acute care wards during your 80-hour placement.
Study online at your pace, with scheduled on-campus skills days and support from industry-active trainers.

Age: 18+ at course start
Schooling: Year 10 (or equivalent)
English & LLN: Short Language, Literacy & Numeracy check
ID & USI: Valid photo ID and a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Access: Computer, internet and basic digital skills
Ward readiness: Able to perform safe manual handling, stand/walk for periods, and provide personal care with dignity
Note: Subclass 500 visa holders aren't eligible for this course.
National Police Check (current)
Immunisation compliance per hospital policy — typically Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, dTpa (whooping cough), TB screening, plus seasonal flu and COVID-19
Working With Children Check(if the placement involves paediatric wards)
Manual Handling training(you’ll complete this in the course prior to placement)
Fitness for duties: safe lifting/transfer, bending, pushing beds/trolleys, and following PPE/infection-control protocols
Hospital onboarding: online modules/site induction as required by the facility

IHNA’s HLT33115 – Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care) is the first step towards becoming a Qualified educator in childcare centres, kindergartens, and early learning settings.
A practical, ward-focused toolkit across patient care, safety, communication and documentation-so you can support nurses confidently in acute care.
Patient care & dignity: hygiene, toileting, bed making, pressure care, positioning, mobility support.
Vital signs & observation: BP, pulse, respirations, temperature, SpO₂, pain scales, reporting changes.
Safe manual handling: hoists, slide sheets, transfers, falls prevention and risk assessments.
Infection prevention: standard & transmission-based precautions, PPE, hand hygiene, cleaning & waste.
Communication & teamwork: SBAR, handover basics, working with RNs/ENs, culturally safe care.
Clinical documentation: charts, care plans, fluid balance, incident reporting and confidentiality.
Nutrition & mealtime support: assisting with feeding, hydration, food safety and allergy awareness.
Acute-care readiness:patient transport, bed/trolley management, stock/equipment checks, escalation pathways.
